That the universe is something distant and unimaginable? The opposite is true! In Prague alone, there are dozens of research teams as well as private companies involved in space activities. And we want to create even better facilities and conditions for them.
The universe is everywhere
We often think that space-related things do not concern us. In fact, the universe is everywhere😊 Almost everyone knows about inventions for space missions. But the services provided by satellites permeate everyday life without our being aware thereof. Precision farming, navigation on a bike or in a car, weather forecasting, but also checking parking availability or waste collection. In all these areas it is possible to find “the universe”.
Prague as the capital city of European space activities
Thanks to the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) headquarters in Prague, as well as thanks to the Czech Republic’s membership in the European Space Agency, Prague can aspire to be the imaginary capital city of European space activities. We consider the development of this area to be one of the key pillars of the Prague’s Innovation Strategy. This fact is a unique opportunity to attract new companies and researchers who want to be at the centre of the action.
Prague can benefit from this development both economically and as a city which uses space technologies for its citizens within the framework of the Smart City concept.
Space activities as joint work
Our goal is to build a functioning innovation ecosystem: an environment in which companies, educational institutions, research teams and public administrations can successfully work together. Therefore, we try to keep track of who is moving on our space map of Prague and communicate to know what are the real needs of the relevant actors. We then work with them in joint meetings to come up with solutions to our problems.
We want the space technologies, as an extremely economically beneficial sector, to be one of the main areas of focus within the framework of the Regional Innovation Strategy of Prague (RIS3) and to benefit the inhabitants of Prague not only financially, but also to improve their everyday lives.
