What areas dominate in Biotech & Healthtech in Prague? It is the pharmaceutical industry and medicine. These are the two fields that stand out in the capital and have the potential for further development of innovation, both in companies and in research, development and education.
Our projects deserve to be supported
Biotech with applications in the pharmaceutical industry and medicine represent a challenging but potentially enormously profitable area with a high added value. The capital city combines many centuries of tradition in medical branches and a century of history in the field of the pharmaceutical production industry. All this together with current examples of good practices in the area of technology transfers, dedicated investment funds and promising start-ups in the biotech and health-tech segments.
What makes Prague attractive for companies
Prague is a centre of education and innovations in the industry, not only in the Czech Republic. The capital city educates more than 20,000 students in relevant fields and provides background facilities for one third of the business entities in the sector. Similarly, one third of foreign investors choose Prague as an ideal destination in the Czech Republic.
Thanks to cooperation with appropriate professional background facilities (universities and their specialised departments, teaching hospitals, institutes such as IKEM, IOCB and other institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences), two thirds of all R&D biotech projects in the Czech Republic are implemented in Prague.
We try to overcome obstacles
Our task is to coordinate and interconnect companies and experts, to inform about ongoing activities, provide public support and generally develop the biotech and health-tech segments.
Retention of highly qualified personnel and the arrival of additional talents from abroad is another important topic. Together with the Expat Centre, we are therefore trying to create the necessary background as well as adequate preconditions, which are to help the development of the Prague economy and, ultimately, public budgets.
